What Is This Tool?
The Shopify Profit Margin Calculator works out profit per order, profit margin, markup and estimated monthly profit after payment fees, marketing and your Shopify plan. It is meant for Shopify store owners and people planning to start a store.
What Can You Do With It?
Set prices that leave a healthy margin after ads and fees. See the difference between margin and markup on the same product. Estimate whether monthly orders cover your Shopify subscription.
How Does It Work?
Payment fees = price × payment % + fixed fee. Profit per order = price − product cost − shipping − payment fees − marketing per order. Margin = profit ÷ price. Markup = (price − product cost) ÷ product cost. Monthly profit = profit per order × orders − plan cost.
Key Benefits
Shows margin and markup side by side, which are often confused. Includes the monthly plan cost so small stores see the real picture. Instant results with no sign-up.
Limitations and Important Notes
Payment rates differ by plan, country and whether you use Shopify Payments. Enter your own rate. App subscriptions, refunds and taxes are not included unless added to marketing or cost.
Privacy and Security
The numbers you enter in the Shopify Profit Margin Calculator (selling price, product cost, shipping cost and so on) are calculated in your browser. They are not sent to or saved on Usekit servers, and they disappear when you close the page.
Real-World Example
Inputs: Selling price = 40; Product cost = 15; Shipping cost = 4; Payment fee = 2.9; Payment fixed fee = 0.3; Marketing per order = 6; Orders per month = 100; Shopify plan per month = 39. Results: Profit per order = $13.54; Profit margin = 33.85%; Markup = 166.67%; Monthly profit = $1,315.00.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between margin and markup?
Margin is profit as a share of the selling price. Markup compares the price difference to the product cost. A $40 product that costs $15 has a 166.67% markup, but its margin after all costs is much lower.
Which Shopify plan cost should I enter?
Enter the monthly price you actually pay. If you pay yearly, divide the yearly price by 12.
Can monthly profit be negative while each order is profitable?
Yes. If you have few orders, the fixed plan cost can be larger than the total profit from those orders.
