What Is This Tool?
The 2FA Authenticator generates time-based one-time passwords (TOTP) for your own two-factor secrets in your browser.
What Can You Do With It?
Generate login codes from your backup secret keys. Test a 2FA setup during development. Access codes on a computer when your phone is not nearby.
How Does It Work?
Codes are created with the TOTP standard: your secret and the current time window are combined with an HMAC hash and shortened to 6 digits. A new code is produced each time window.
Key Benefits
No app install needed. Quick to use for a code when you need one.
Limitations and Important Notes
Requires an accurate device clock. This is not a replacement for keeping secure backups of your 2FA keys. Only use it for accounts you own.
Privacy and Security
Codes are calculated in your browser from the secret you enter. Treat your secret like a password and do not use this tool on shared or public computers.
Real-World Example
Enter the secret JBSWY3DPEHPK3PXP. A 6-digit code is shown and refreshes when its time window ends. Typing that code on the matching account completes login.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is TOTP?
Time-based One-Time Password: a short code that changes every few seconds and is calculated from a shared secret and the current time.
Is my secret saved?
Codes are generated locally. Clear your browser data if you want to be sure nothing remains on a device.
Can I use it for any website?
Any service that uses standard TOTP authenticator codes should work.
