What Is This Tool?
2FA Live Code shows the current 6-digit time-based one-time password (TOTP) for a 2FA secret key you paste. It is for people who set up two-factor authentication and need to read the code for their own account.
What Can You Do With It?
Read the current code for your own account from a backup secret key. Check that a newly saved 2FA secret produces working codes. Get a code quickly on a computer without opening a phone app.
How Does It Work?
The page uses the standard TOTP method (RFC 6238): it combines your secret key with the current time in 30-second steps, hashes them with SHA-1 and turns the result into a 6-digit number.
Key Benefits
Works with Google, Microsoft, GitHub and other services that use standard TOTP. Accepts a plain secret or an otpauth:// link.
Limitations and Important Notes
Your device clock must be correct; a wrong clock gives wrong codes. Only standard 6-digit, 30-second SHA-1 codes are supported. Only use secrets for accounts you own. Anyone with your secret can create your codes.
Quick One-Time Use
2FA Live Code is made for short, on-the-spot use. You paste a key, copy the current code and use it right away. When you need a code for another account, simply paste the next key and a new live code appears. Each code is valid for about 30 seconds, so there is nothing to set up or save, and you can switch between keys as many times as you need.
Real-World Example
Paste a secret such as JBSWY3DPEHPK3PXP. The page shows a 6-digit code (for example 492039) and a countdown from 30. When the countdown reaches 0, a new code appears.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my code rejected?
The most common reason is a device clock that is out of sync. Turn on automatic time on your device and try again.
Where do I find my 2FA secret key?
When you enable 2FA, most services offer a “cannot scan the QR code?” option that shows the secret key. Save it somewhere safe.
Can I get codes for more than one account?
Yes. Paste one key, copy its code, then paste the next key to get the next code.
