What Is This Tool?
The Overtime Pay Calculator (US) works out regular hours, overtime hours, overtime pay and total weekly pay using the federal Fair Labor Standards Act rule of 1.5× pay over 40 hours, with optional double-time hours.
What Can You Do With It?
Check that your paycheck includes correct overtime. Plan how extra shifts change weekly pay. Estimate payroll for hourly staff.
How Does It Work?
Double-time hours are taken out first and paid at 2× the rate. Of the remaining hours, up to the regular limit are paid at the normal rate and the rest at the overtime multiplier. Total pay = regular + overtime + double-time pay.
Key Benefits
Supports a custom threshold and multiplier. Handles double-time for states that require it. Instant results with no sign-up.
Limitations and Important Notes
Before-tax pay only. Taxes and deductions are not included. State daily-overtime rules (such as California) need you to enter the right double-time hours yourself. Not legal advice. Exempt employees may not be eligible for overtime.
Privacy and Security
The numbers you enter in the Overtime Pay Calculator (US) (hourly rate, total hours this week, regular hours limit and so on) are calculated in your browser. They are not sent to or saved on Usekit servers, and they disappear when you close the page.
Real-World Example
Inputs: Hourly rate = 20; Total hours this week = 48; Regular hours limit = 40; Overtime multiplier = 1.5; Double-time hours = 0. Results: Regular hours = 40; Overtime hours = 8; Overtime pay = $240.00; Total weekly pay = $1,040.00.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the federal overtime rule?
Under the FLSA, non-exempt employees must get at least 1.5× their regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek.
Should double-time hours be included in total hours?
Yes. Enter all hours worked in total hours; double-time hours are counted inside that total.
Is overtime calculated per day or per week?
Federal law uses a weekly 40-hour threshold. Some states also have daily rules.
