What Is This Tool?
The Image Compressor reduces the file size of JPG, PNG, WebP and BMP images so they load faster and are easier to share or upload.
What Can You Do With It?
Shrink photos before uploading to a website or form with a size limit. Make images lighter for faster web pages. Convert and compress at the same time to JPG or WebP.
How Does It Work?
The image is drawn onto a browser canvas and re-encoded in the chosen format at the selected quality. If the result is not smaller than the original, the original is kept.
Key Benefits
Shows the new size and the saving. Never gives you a bigger file than you started with.
Limitations and Important Notes
JPG and WebP compression removes some detail; very low quality can look blurry. PNG output is lossless and may not shrink much. Converting to JPG replaces transparency with white. Photo metadata (EXIF) is not kept.
Privacy and Security
Files are processed inside your browser on your own device. They are not uploaded to Usekit servers, and the result is created locally for you to download.
Real-World Example
A 3.2 MB smartphone JPG compressed to JPG at 70% quality often becomes a few hundred KB, with little visible change at normal viewing size. The exact result depends on the photo.
Frequently Asked Questions
What quality should I use?
Around 70–80% usually gives a good balance between size and appearance for photos.
Why did my file not get smaller?
It was already well compressed, so the tool kept the original.
Is WebP better than JPG?
WebP is often smaller at similar quality and is supported by modern browsers.
